Syndrome of grasshopper mentality By Pastor Jonathan Biowei

I want to express my profound gratitude to Prof. Jude, the GYMHA community and The Almighty God for this great opportunity to serve humanity.

You cannot make progress in life with a grasshopper mentality. Grasshopper mentality is the enemy of progression but the best friend of retrogression.

Grasshopper mentality is negativity that saps your energy. It drains you. It kills your future.

Grasshopper mentality is a negative mentality that belittles and makes you vulnerable. It is a negative energy that destroys from within.

This mentality belittles you but empowers your enemy. It downplays everything about you, and amplifies everything about your enemy.

Num.13.31 – But the men that went up with him said, we will not be able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.

I’m yet to see or hear about a man or woman who was successful with a grasshopper mentality. Grasshopper mentality is a suicide vest that kills only the host.

According to Dr. Mike Murdock “Grasshopper mentality”. It is the mentality one has when one says, “I am not like other people. I cannot make it in life. God does not love me. Other people can succeed but not me.”

This syndrome occurs when we see ourselves as being unable to move forward in our purpose and destiny because of our wrong identity, past experiences, and present circumstances. Low self-esteem, trauma, fear, unbelief, and failure to trust God are all contributing factors.

Grasshopper mentality is a flat tire. Imagine yourself in a speed lane with punctured tires? A man or woman with a grasshopper mentality is in the speed lane of life with punctured tires.

Grasshopper mentality can delay or utter the plan of God for your life.

Num.13.31 – But the men that went up with him said, We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.

Num.13.32 – And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature.

Num.13.33 – And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.

Grasshopper syndrome does not only belittle you, but makes you ungrateful and hostile toward God.

Grasshopper mentality kills. Kill this negative mentality before it kills you.

Solution:

  1. Don’t talk down on yourself because you are the only person in the entire universe that’s you. No one else is you but you.
  2. Celebrate your strengths and work on your weaknesses. Don’t allow your weakness to dominate your strength.
  3. Think right. As a man thinks in his own heart so is he (Pr. 23:7).
  4. Seek professional help.
