Resilient Relationships

By Dr. Anjum Nazir Qureshi

A resilient relationship is when a person stays with you in all your hard times, supports you knows that you are right, and is ready to stand with you though the world may be against you. This kind of relationship is rarely found. There are very few fortunate ones. Have you ever wondered about the significant impacts of resilient relationships on life? Let’s discuss some of them:

  • One of the significant impacts of resilient relationships on your life is that it helps to adapt and recover from adverse situations. Many of us tend to be weaker and helpless during adversities. However, with someone’s support in adverse conditions, you can be strong and fight for your rights, find solutions to your problems, and recover easily.
  • When you have resilient relationships, you are relieved as you will find the right support however tough the situation may be. It soothes the effect of stress and tension and you are more relaxed. You are ready to face all the challenges in life.

The Impact of Digital Pathways on Youth Mental Health: How Technology Can Support Sustainable Development for Young People

By J. Ediae

In today’s digital age, technology plays a significant role in the lives of young people. From social media to online learning platforms, digital pathways have become an integral part of how youth communicate, learn, and engage with the world around them. However, along with the benefits of technology come concerns about its impact on youth mental health. In this blog post, we will explore how digital pathways can both positively and negatively affect the mental well-being of young people, and how technology can be utilized to support sustainable development for youth.

  1. Increased Connectivity: One of the most significant benefits of digital pathways for youth is increased connectivity. Social media platforms allow young people to connect with friends and family members from around the world, fostering a sense of community and belonging. However, excessive time spent on social media can also lead to feelings of anxiety and depression, as young people compare themselves to others and seek validation through likes and comments. It is essential for parents and educators to teach young people healthy ways to use social media and promote positive self-esteem.

Veterans and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

By Mary-Anne

Post-war trauma also known as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), is a common condition affecting military personnel after experiencing severe trauma or life-threatening events during combat. The images of their fallen colleagues at the war fronts, images of colleagues dismembered. These experience most times lead to trauma-related mental health disorders such as depression, panic, grief, anxiety, difficulty in sleeping, difficulty concentrating, hypervigilance, and in most cases nightmares that just won’t fade away.

Let’s outline some strategies that can be adopted in tackling post-war trauma.

  • Connect with fellow serving military personnel or veterans who understand your experience.
  • It’s pertinent to talk to a trusted friend or family member. Sharing your experience goes a long way in alleviating this trauma.
  • Engage in meaningful activities such as volunteering.
  • Practice relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, meditation, or hobbies.
  • Consider some effective therapies for PTSD. Examples include Cognitive -behavioural therapy (CBT), and exposure therapy.
  • Seeking professional help can never be overemphasized. Consult a mental health professional experienced in treating PTSD.

We have personnel within our communities going through post-war trauma related mental health issues. Let’s encourage them not to be too hard on themselves but assure them that with the right support and resources, they can manage these issues and improve their overall well-being.

  • Identify negative thoughts and replace them with more balanced, realistic ones.
  • Learn the art of communicating effectively by addressing issues directly and respectfully.
  • Imbibe the culture of forgiveness, let go of grudges so as to maintain your sanity.
